Costs vary with the season, choice of islands, and number of domestic flights. Bangkok and the north often support a lower budget than high-demand beach areas. The figures below are planning estimates: check prices in baht for your dates and convert them when preparing the trip.

Approximate daily budgets

Style Accommodation Food Transport and sights Approximate total
Budget Dorm or simple room Stalls and local restaurants Public transport and selected sights THB 1,000-1,800
Mid-range Mid-range hotel Local and international meals Ride-hailing and several admissions THB 2,000-4,000
Comfortable Superior hotel or resort Restaurants and drinks Private transfers and tours From THB 4,500

International flights are not included. Island stays, holidays, and peak season can push accommodation and transfers beyond these ranges.

Costs that change the total

Accommodation

Compare the final rate, taxes, breakfast, and cancellation policy. A cheap room far from transport may increase daily costs. Smaller islands have limited supply, so busy dates often require earlier booking.

Transport

Bangkok has BTS, MRT, buses, boats, and taxis. For long journeys, compare trains, overnight buses, and flights including airport transfers. Ferries depend on season and sea conditions.

If renting a scooter, confirm that your license is valid, wear a helmet, and check insurance cover. The rental price does not reflect the risk or potential damage charges.

Food and activities

Local meals can be inexpensive, while international restaurants, alcohol, and beach areas cost more. National parks, diving, boat trips, and guided tours need separate budget lines.

Three-week calculation

Multiply the daily figure by 21, then add international flights, insurance, any visa, and contingency funds. One total cannot fit every itinerary: several islands can cost much more than a route focused on Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

Cards and cash

  • Keep baht for markets, transport, and small businesses.
  • Pay by card in local currency and check merchant surcharges.
  • ATMs may charge their own fee in addition to your bank's fee.
  • Store a second card separately and exchange cash in stages.

Season and prices

Demand is often highest from November to February. Rainy seasons differ between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman coast; lower room rates may come with reduced ferries or canceled excursions. Check the climate for each stop rather than relying on a national forecast.
